The classic silent disco setup is an FM or 2.4 GHz transmitter plus a crate of matching receiver headsets. It works, it's proven, and it's why a 50-person party gets quoted several hundred dollars before anyone has played a track. The headsets have to be delivered, charged, handed out, sized, collected, counted, and cleaned โ and you pay for every one of those steps.
The alternative is to treat the phone in each guest's pocket as the receiver. It already has a screen, a battery, a network connection, and headphones that person has chosen and likes wearing. No. They open a link or scan a QR code in whatever browser is already on their phone and tap play. Optional native apps can give nicer lock-screen controls, but requiring an install at the door is the fastest way to lose half your guests.

They work fine. Bluetooth does add its own latency, but it's small and โ crucially โ similar across modern devices. If one person is noticeably off, a good system gives them a per-device fine-tune control to nudge themselves into line.
In a browser, keeping audio alive through a screen lock is genuinely fiddly, which is why well-built players use a background audio anchor and show lock-screen play/pause controls. Tell guests to keep their screen on if they hit trouble; the native guest apps handle locking more robustly.
